"Themen aktuell" is an updated and reworked edition of "Themen neu." Most noticeable are the changes to presentation with new pictures and up-to-date photographs in a mew modern layout. Communication is still the principal aim and students are encouraged to participate actively in conversations mirroring everyday situations and, later, in discussions on relevant topics, and connections are made with simple literary and factual texts and newspaper articles. A wide range of texts have been chosen to form the basis of the listening and reading comprehension exercises and the understanding of grammatical structures is developed using the same texts, with summaries included at intervals for revision purposes. There are also numerous exercises to consolidate vocabulary and "checklists" for reference and revision.
